Another example of having to file grievances over the basics. At a public meeting of Operations Council on April 14, 2015 the College announced that they were going to be closing one of the bookstores. No other details and no consultation or notification to the Union or affected employees in the area.  When we questioned their actions it was downplayed as just a “thought bubble” to address the $5.4 million budget deficit and balance the budget for 2015/16. This manner of handling employee relations is not an isolated incident with this administration, e.g. laying off employees of 20+ years via email, discriminating against employees on maternity leave.

Remedy of the grievance:

“The College understands and recognizes this was a regrettable error and provides a written assurance that should any future plans come to fruition, any and all CA rights and obligations will be adhered to.” Linda Sanderson, Executive Director HR

Let’s hope this understanding and recognition results in a positive change in the way this current administration is conducting themselves.
